To complete the College’s Practical Legal Training program you must
1) complete all three components of the program:
- Coursework Component
- Work Experience Component
- Continuing Professional Education Component
2) submit a certified copy of your awarded, conferred or completed academic transcript or law degree.
You may take up to four (4) years to complete all the program components. When you have completed all of the above items, the College will provide all necessary documents required for Admission, including your Certificate of Completion. On completion you will also receive yourGraduate Diploma of Legal Practice.
Admission to Practice
To be admitted to practice as an Australian lawyer you must have completed:
- the necessary legal academic requirements (eg a law degree or diploma in law), and
- the necessary Practical Legal Training requirements for your intended state or territory of admission.
Each state and territory in Australia has different requirements and processes for admission. The following table contains links to the relevant admission authorities for law graduates who have not previously been admitted in Australia or overseas. Upon admission, you are also eligible for admission in other states or territories, either directly or under the Mutual Recognition Scheme. How can I find out whether my law degree and practical legal training meet the admission eligibility requirements?
We recommend that you contact the admission authority in the jurisdiction in which you wish to apply to ensure that your qualifications are sufficient and cover the subjects prescribed for admission.
